Supporting your professional development

The Learning and Skills Office has been created to support the continuing professional development (CPD) of Exams Managers/Officers and Senior Leaders who have been given overall responsibility for examinations and assessments within their centre.

Available exclusively to members of The Exams Office, The Learning and Skills Office provide access to high-quality, certificated training and assessment modules designed to develop knowledge, strengthen professional practice and support regulatory compliance.

Support for exams managers/officers and senior leaders

The Learning and Skills Office has been created to support:

  • Exams managers/officers in undertaking continuing professional development (CPD) that enhances their knowledge, skills, efficiency and effectiveness in their role
  • Senior leaders with overall responsibility for examinations and assessments in developing their knowledge and understanding of examination regulations, enabling them to provide effective support and oversight.

Please note that training and assessments relating to JCQ examination regulations within LASO have been created to provide an introduction to the guidance only. They do not replace the requirement for relevant staff, including senior leaders and exams office personnel, to read and familiarise themselves with the full contents of all relevant JCQ documents.

Free access for up to five users

Each member centre can create up to five user accounts free of charge, providing access to a growing programme of certificated training and assessment modules covering:

  • JCQ regulations – develop and assess knowledge of the regulations and requirements governing examinations and assessments
  • Key Skills – strengthen essential professional skills for managing examinations and assessments effectively
  • Mindfulness and wellbeing – develop knowledge and practical skills to support personal wellbeing and the wellbeing of colleagues and candidates

Exams Manager/Officer Professional Standards

The Learning and Skills Office is endorsed by the National Association of Examinations Officers (NAEO) as the platform for hosting the Exams Manager/Officer Professional Standards.

Exams Managers and Exams Officers can register for the Standards through The Learning and Skills Office member area. Once registered, users can:

  • access and work through the Professional Standards;
  • monitor progress against their targets; and
  • claim their certificate once all required targets have been completed
